Possible origin and demographic asset of a population of Quercus trojana Webb subsp. trojana (Fagaceae) in the wood of Ficuzza (Palermo, Sicily). The first record of Macedonian oak in Sicily is reported. The finding consists of 73 adult and 4 young individuals. A morphometric analysis of all of them, along with an assessment of their phytosanitary status was carried out. They all grow between 700 and 850 m a.s.l. on a 2,30 ha area, characterized by a land mosaic of shrubland and forest patches. Notwithstanding two years of researches, no ultimate proof has been found on their alien status. The main goal of this paper is to present the circumstances of an attempt on the life of the King Alexander I Karađorđevic, who was killed by terrorists from Macedonian organization VMRO in 1934, during his official visit in France. The author indicated that many researchers were focused mainly on the following questions: who were the organizers and co-organizers of the assassination attempt? What was the goal of terrorists: assassination of the King of Yugoslavia or assassination of Louis Barthou, minister of foreign affairs of France? The stay of the nuns of Lesna in the territory of the actual Republic of Macedonia, in the monastery of St. Bogorodica in Kicevo, is a less known event of the history of their migration.

The objective of this study was to characterize the genetic structure of two Balkan brown trout morphotypes, Salmo macedonicus and Salmo pelagonicus, and to test whether molecular traits support the species’ status proposed by traditional morphological identification. The mitochondrial DNA 12S-rDNA, cyt b and control region genes were sequenced in 15 specimens collected from three localities in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The results of these markers did not support the taxonomic category of species but confirmed the existence of two morphotypes, Salmo trutta macedonicus and Salmo trutta pelagonicus, in the Aegean–Adriatic lineages of the Salmo trutta species complex.
